Avoiding Duplicate Texts
Appointible includes a simple safeguard in SMS settings to prevent sending too many marketing messages to the same person in a short time. Nobody enjoys feeling like a phone is under a text avalanche.
Plan requirements
Marketing features, including this protection against duplicate texts, are available only on the Appointible Pro plan. To check or upgrade the subscription, open Billing under Settings ▸ Subscription.
Opening SMS settings
- Sign in to the Appointible account.
- Open Settings from the left-hand menu.
- Under Workspace, select SMS.
That page controls how Appointible handles SMS marketing, including smart sending, quiet hours, and how often the same person can receive a marketing text.
Info
The Sending rules card appears only once the business has a phone number of its own. With only Appointible's shared numbers, the page shows the Phone numbers card alone.
Setting the time gap
On the Sending rules card in SMS settings, Smart sending defines how much time must pass before the same client can receive another campaign message.
- Click Update settings on the Sending rules card.
- In Skip recipients that have received a message in the last hour(s), enter the gap in hours, from 0 to 48 (for example, 24 or 12). Despite the word "skip", no message is dropped: a held-back text waits and goes out once the gap has passed.
- Click Save.
By default, Appointible uses a 24-hour gap. That means if a campaign is sent from Campaigns in the morning and another campaign is scheduled for the afternoon, the same client receives the first marketing text right away, and the second one waits until 24 hours have passed since the first, then goes out.
What this affects
- Campaign messages – Campaigns sent from Campaigns respect this time gap. If multiple campaigns target the same client inside that window, the first marketing SMS is sent and the later ones wait until the gap has passed.
- Reminders and transactional texts – Appointment reminders and other non-marketing messages are not blocked by this setting. Those will still be delivered so clients do not miss appointments.
Practical tips
- Keep at least a 24-hour gap for general marketing to avoid fatigue and opt-outs.
- Plan campaigns in Campaigns with this window in mind so different promotions do not compete for the same client on the same day.
- If a more intensive promotion is needed (for example, a short flash sale), consider shortening the gap temporarily, then increasing it again afterward.
With a well-chosen time gap, marketing stays visible without turning into that friend who texts every five minutes.
